GENTRY — Gentry Senior High Cheerleaders had their first competition this past Saturday at Morrilton and took fi rst.

They also won the game day/pom competition, which was new this year.

Sophia Asencio-Porter took first place in the jump-off and made the top 5 of tumbling.

Their next competitions are:

“The girls are working really hard this year and hoping to do well at State,” said Joni Wilson, coach for the cheer squad. “In fact, their goal is to win state.”

Wilson said she has a young group this year,with two of her fl yers being sophomores and one a junior.

“That is encouraging for next year,” Wilson said. “I just hope we can keep everyone healthy so they perform their best at the state competition.”
