Gentry High School choirs, under the direction of Trella Yates, hosted a small school choir clinic on Friday to help prepare 113 area choir students for their northwest Arkansas allregion choir tryouts.
Students attending were from high schools in Gentry, Gravette, Alpena, Elkins, Farmington, Green Forest, Lincoln, Prairie Grove and Siloam Springs. Rager Moore, Elizabeth Momand, Natlyn Hayes and Taylor Schmidt, choir directors from the University of Arkansas in Ft. Smith, came to work with the students.
Tryout pieces practiced by students included, “Let Their Celestial Concerts All Unite” by Handel, “The Sweetheart of the Sun” by Barnum, “Psalm 42” (in German) by Mendelssohn, “Benigne Fac Domine” (inLatin) by Sacchini, and Shaw/Parker Sea Chanty Lowlands.
The clinic was designed to give students more confidence and experience before their all-region tryouts on Oct. 5.
