Hiwasse Church Revival

Hiwasse Church of the Nazarene, located at 13560 W. Highwy 72 in Hiwasse, will be conducting revival services Oct. 4 to 6 with Jeremy Spear as speaker. Services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday night and at 10:50 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday. Pastor Larry Weihe and the congregation invite the public to attend any or all of the services. Life Chain in Gravette

All persons interested in taking a public stand concerning the right to life issue are encouraged to participate in National Life Chain Sunday from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 6. Life Chain calls participants to an hour and a half of intercession on our local sidewalks. This year, as in other years, Life Chain will be held on the sidewalks in front of Gravette Holiness Bible School. Participants are asked to gather at 1:45 p.m. for prayer and to sign in. Gravette Holiness Revival

The Church of God (Holiness), located at 4th and Atlanta Streets in Gravette, will be in revival from Oct. 7-12. The speaker will be Dewayne Ellmore, pastor of the Bible Holiness Church in Scammon, Kan. The Ellmore Family will be in charge of special singing each night. Maysville Bean Supper

The Maysville E.H. Club is sponsoring a bean supper, beginning at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Maysville Community Building. Beans and cornbread will be served and a donation is requested. Homemade pies will be on sale, and a cake walk will be held following the meal. This is the club’s annual fall fundraiser and all proceeds will go for the upkeep of the community building.

Fun Run

A 1-mile and 5K fun run are being planned for the morning of Sunday, Oct. 13, in Gentry. The running events are a part of the fall festival planned for that afternoon. Registration is from 7 to 7:30 a.m. at the old pavilion in Gentry City Park, with the races beginning about 7:30 a.m. The one-mile fun run is free, and all participants will receive a box of Little Debbie snack cakes. There is a $25 entry fee for the 5K run, and runners may enter under the following age categories: Under 14; 14-17; 18-34; 35-44; 45-54; and 55 and older. All participants will receive Tshirts, and the top two male and female runners - overall and in each age category - will receive prizes. Miss Octoberfest

Miss Octoberfest Pageants will be held Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Gentry High School Auditorium. They are sponsored by the Gentry junior high cheerleaders. The pageants are open to any and all participants, with age divisions from 0 months to 18 years of age, including divisions for boys from 0 months to 6 years of age. Multicultural Potluck

A multicultural potluck celebrating cultures in the community and around the world is planned at Gravette High School from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 14. Attendees can expect singing, dancing guest speakers and food from around the world. Attendees are invited to bring their family and a favorite meal to share. Pickin’ Time on 59

Pickin’ Time on 59 is set to be held Oct. 10-13 in westside cities along Arkansas Highway 59. Area residents are encouraged to hold yard and garage sales during that time Some of the area cities have waived special permit fees for sales on that weekend. Please check with your local city hall or chamber of commerce for more details.

Gentry Quilt Show

Gentry will hold its annual fall quilt show in the McKee Community Room at the Gentry Public Library from Oct. 11 through Oct. 18. The show is sponsored by McKee Foods Corp. Gentry Fall Festival

Gentry’s annual United Way fall festival is set for the afternoon of Sunday, Oct. 13 in the city park. The event includes a fun run in the morning, a talent show at 1 p.m.

Bethel Cemetery Work Day

A work day will be held at Bethel Cemetery south of Gravette on Saturday, Oct 5, beginning at 9 a.m. Please bring chain saws and clippers to work on trees. Cemetery caretakers are needing help and urge all who are able to come out and help keep the cemetery beautiful. In case of rain, the work day will be delayed one week.

Springtown Cemetery

The annual meeting of the Springtown Cemetery Association has been set for 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at the cemetery. The meeting was moved from its original time and place due to a confl ict by a number of association members.

Springtown Cleanup

A town cleanup will be held in Springtown on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The collection point will be the city yard south of Arkansas Highway 12 onReadings Road. The public is invited to bring their bulky waste (items not normally collected from the weekly residential trash collection). No yard waste, brush or wood will be accepted. Hazardous waste material can be dropped off for a charge of $5 per vehicle, with the cost to be paid by the town if residents bring proof of their address inside the city limits.

Cooking Show

A live cooking show featuring Mark Anthony will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, at the Springtown Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 12444 Fairmount Rd., between Gentry and Springtown. Take Hwy. 12 east out of Gentry, then take Fairmount Rd. south to the church. Anthony is a specialist in vegan cooking.

Trick or Treat on Main

Trick or Treat on Main Street is set from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31, on Main Street in Gentry. Children are invited to come and enjoy the fun, and local businesses are invited to participate. Contact the Gentry Chamber of Commerce for more information at 736-2358.

Hunter Education

A hunter education class, sponsored by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, will be held from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at First Baptist Church Family Activity Center, 232 West Main St., Gentry. The program is free and is structured to acquaint students with the many wildlife-oriented recreational opportunities and shooting sports available to them. Highfill Hay Daze

Highfill Hay Daze is set for Oct. 5. A fun run will start at 7 a.m. A pancake breakfast, followed by an opening ceremony are also set to begin at 7 a.m. at the community building. A parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. (with lineup at the cemetery). Events begin in the park at 10 a.m. and continue throughout the day. Included on the schedule are a “tiny-tot” and “little” contest at 10 a.m., car show at 10 a.m., archery contest at 10:30 a.m., Miss Highfill street wear at 11 a.m., stick horse rodeo at 11 a.m., a pet parade at noon, pie eating contest at 1 p.m., mutton bustin’ at 2 p.m., Miss Highfill formal wear at 2 p.m., redneck tough-man contest at 4 p.m. and the Boston Mountain Playboys at 5 p.m. More information is available from Marisha Gardisser at 549-5549.

Alumni Basketball

The Gentry Pioneers boy’s basketball team will be having its second annual alumni basketball game for all Gentry Alumni. It will be played at the High School gym on Oct. 26 (Homecoming weekend) starting at 11 a.m. The cost is $30, which will include a T-shirt and a barbecue lunch. Library Gala

A Gravette Library Gala will be held from 6 to 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Horton Farms, 15799 Bethlehem Rd., in Gravette. The gala, sponsored by the Gravette Library Commission, will benefit the library building fund. The theme is “Fall in Love With Reading, It Will Take You Places You’ve Never Been.” Tickets, at $50 each, are available at the library, 787-6955, at Arvest Bank and Bank of Gravett. The evening will feature a catered meal (choice of 2 entrees), silent auction with an outstanding list of items to bid on, musical entertainment, cowboy poet performance, presentation by the architect designing the new library and a fall mum sale.

Fun Game Day

A fun game day will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at the American Legion Hall at the corner of Bella Vista Way and Kingsland Road in Bella Vista. Tickets to the event are $10 each at the door or can be pre-purchased by calling Sandy, 787-5050 (cell - 406-939-0891). All proceeds will benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. A soup and salad bar and beverages will be available for purchase, and tickets will be sold for door prizes (must be present to win). The event is sponsored by Epsilon Sigma Apha and ESA invites all to come and join them for a fun day of cards or board games. Cards will be provided or bring your favorite game.

Bible Study

The public is invited to attend an interactive Bible study held at 7 p.m. each Thursday evening at Steve’s Cafe in Sulphur Springs. Steve Curry is the leader for the study. Call 903-0656 for information.

Miss/Mr. GHS

The 2013-14 Mister and Miss GHS Pageant will be held on Oct. 5 in the Gravette High School Performing Arts Center. Pre-pageant entertainment will begin at 1:15 p.m. Questions can be emailed to gravettehspto@ gmail.com.

Decatur Food Pantry

United Christian Charities has opened a food pantry in downtown Decatur, across from Decatur State Bank, for anyone needing food in the northwest Arkansas area The hours of operation are Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. The point of contact is Tina Holt 435-5699.

Feed My Sheep

The Feed My Sheep food pantry in Gravette is open each Thursday from 1 p.m to 5 p.m. A pantry program is available that has no income guidelines, and the pantry also offers the USDA Commodity Program which is income based. Interested parties are encouraged to go to the pantry located at 303 Third Avenue SW in Gravette and visit with the pantry staff regarding eligibility for these programs or call 787-6700 for more information.

Maysville Pantry

Maysville Missionary Baptist Church opens its food pantry, Our Healing Hearts every fourth Sunday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. for those in need.

Church Singing

Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist in Sulphur Springs holds a singing service every fourth Saturday of the month, starting at 6:30 p.m. A potluck dinner follows. For more information, call Jheri Roberts the pastor, at 752-7082.

Praise and Worship

Maysville Missionary Baptist Church holds a praise andworship service at 6 p.m. every third Sunday night, with refreshments following.

Tired Iron

Regular meetings of the Tired Iron of the Ozarks are held at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of each month at the Tired Iron clubhouse, located at the club’s show grounds on Taylor Orchard Road southwest of Gentry.

Gravette Legion

Gravette American Legion Post 25 meets the third Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Gravette Kiwanis

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the fi rst Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Men’s Fellowship

First Baptist Church of Gentry has a monthly men’s fellowship gathering at 8 a.m. on the third Saturday of each month. All men are welcome to come for food and fellowship. Guests are welcome. For more information, contact Madden Waits at 736-5009.

VFW Meetings Decatur

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the fi rst Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is three miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102, right on Tilly’s Hill Road.
