I know my place but the times are unsettling

We worked the big bunch of cows under the roof last week! The covered area is wonderful and all the planning was pretty good, but we need to make some adjustments on some little stuff.

One thing I didn’t allow for was a bench for me to rest on! I will see to it before we do another batch of cattle. Once in awhileit takes a few minutes for the pushers to get another head in the chute and I could relieve my old body by resting. All things in good time.

Spent a little time at the coffee emporium last week. It was too wet to do much and I needed to catch up on the local news, so I ordered a piece of cherry pie and took a chair. Bob hadeveryone’s attention as he painted oral pictures about the terrible wreck at the intersection. He said a gas truck hit a tractor pulling a baler and blocked off the road for two hours. No one was injured and it was the first time the truck driver had seen his cousin, the tractor driver, in a couple of years. The traffi c was sparse and, when a car approached, the fellers cleared the road. I guess the tractor got a dent on the right front but it didn’t really damage anything.

I hung around long enough to hear some politics and how tostraighten out the mess on Capitol Hill. I am sure the generation before me was great, but they are now ready to brandish firearms and ride in shooting. I agree it might be the only way to clean out the rats’ nests, but it isn’t a Christian attitude. How long the people will suffer this sort of injustice is the question and, if the ones electing officials could read, things might get squared away quicker.

One of the board members mentioned an association that advertised in the farm magazine was new and looking for interested members. It was promoting black Herefords and claimed to have a growing membership. I am still puzzling over that. Could be they would have to run a DNA on all the cattle up for registration, as Holstein X Angus will have stockings and white faces some times. Well, not one of my many problems today.

My close relative’s automobile has a tricky starter and she has asked me to see to it. I think she mentioned something about me not coming back until it was repaired. I would rather spend today doing anything outside but, eventhough I wear the title of boss, I do as I am told!

It is my opinion, and everyone has one, the unsettled feeling we all are experiencing is a disconcerting one for sure. We should be able to trust and know the leadership of this country will do the right thing but, doggies, it sure is making a lot of men nervous right now. The best thing for us low brows to do is get in touch with the Lord and ask His mighty hand to take over.

I am on my way to the mechanic’s tree!
