Gravette fills council post

— Amy Rambadt was sworn in as a new member of the Gravette City Council at its meeting Thursday night. She replaces Larry Stidham, alderman for Ward 2, Seat 2, who recently resigned.

Preceding the meeting, Ken Foxx, chairman of the planning commission, addressed the meeting, following up on a letter he had written inviting area community leaders to an upcoming commission meeting. He is asking for input from the council, city employees and other key leaders as to what the role of the planning commission should be and what objectives it should pursue.

Foxx said the area would likely see much change in the next 10 years and “we can either take what we get or we can plan for it and prepare for it.”

The city’s new partnershipwith Gravette Public Schools, outlining the responsibilities of the School Resource Offi cer, was unanimously approved.

Ordinances for the dissolution of the Gravette City Court and designating the district court clerk as the offi cial responsible for the collection of fines assessed in district court for the city of Gravette were also approved, as was a lot split for David and Carol Wills on property west of town.

Discussion of the Johanson Group’s proposed job classification and compensation study was tabled until the November committee of the whole meeting.

Alderman Bob Robinson said he still felt that, perhaps, the city could do the study itself, with department heads being the ones to do comparisons. Melissa Smith expressed willingness to type job descriptions or do other tasks which would facilitate that project.
