Mule-powered stump puller to be displayed

GENTRY - To my mind, museums are keepers of our history. Taking a look back to see how we used to live is like dipping into a bowl of warm nostalgia. A visit to any museum reinforces much-loved traditions … to name one of the benefi ts.

One of the keepers of history here in Northwest Arkansas is Tired Iron of the Ozarks. It’s called Tired Iron because all of the old iron is tired and so are allthe old men who own it - or does it own us?

Our 22nd annual fall show will be held Sept. 6,7 and 8. If you’ve never attended one if our shows, be sure to come out this year. We have 17 acres full of antique machinery and housewares. Sawmills will be buzzing, and the blacksmith shop will be putting on demonstrations all day Saturday. There are several hands-on things for the kids to do. Kids of all ages can make a rope, and those 8 years old and older can drive a tractor.

We will be threshing wheat, then taking the grain to the grist mill to turn it into fl our. There will be many tractors and engines on display, with demonstrations taking place all day.

This year we have a new addition. It’s a horse-powered stump puller. Its about 100 years old, and I thought its age was a big deal until I remembered it’s only 30 years older than I am.

Come on out and take part in the fun … and remember, it’s one of the last free things to do in Northwest Arkansas.

Gates are open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday, and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.

Church services will be held in the club house at 9 a.m. on Sunday, with Clyde Brummett offi ciating.

Come to Gentry and follow the signs. We are located 4 miles southwest of Gentry at 13344 Taylor Orchard Rd.
