FLOY DEAN OLIVER, 65, passed away Saturday, Aug. 31 in NorthLittle Rock. She was born Oct. 5, 1947, in Camden, Ark., to Henry and Hilda Russell of Harmony Grove, Ouachita County.

Floy Dean was a very active person who was passionate about yard work, friends and traveling but most of all her family. She dedicated her whole life to her husband, children, grandchildren and her 11pound Pekinese she called Poo.

She was proud to be one of the original Arkansas Travelers who campaigned for Bill Clinton in New Hampshire. While her husband served as Democratic Party chairman, she befriended all of the young people who came through the headquarters. She called them her kids. It was not unusual to find her at the headquarters mopping the floor and cleaning the bathrooms. One of her favorite moments was getting to walk through the White House while it was decorated for Christmas.

She and Ron traveled a lot, but a few of her favorites included Disney World and New Orleans. She always wanted to drive through the areas that were flooded and marvel at the recovery.

Floy Dean was an extremely intelligent woman who followed worldwide events closely and definitely had an opinion about most things. But the words her friends used to describe her most were caring and kind. She loved Garvan Woodland Gardens and the Pulaski County Humane Society.

Floy Dean was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Hilda Russell; and one daughter, Merilisabeth Johnson. She is survived by her husband, Ron Oliver; son, Ken Johnson; one daughter, Lindsay Oliver; four grandchildren, Allison Vandenberg, Kallon Gentry, Jonathan and Madison Conder, all of North Little Rock; one sister, Ann Sturgis (Edward) of Kingsland; brother, Thomas Russell (Cathy) of Texarkana, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

September 1, 2013, MICHAEL EDWARD STECKS SR. saw Jesusface to face. Mike was a true son of the soil, by heritage and by choice. Toward the end of his 16-year struggle with cancer, he delighted in getting in the cab once more tobring in the wheat harvest. This put him in touch with the life he loved. Farmers have many opportunities to become acquainted with God’s presence on earth. In September, 1967, Mike found Jesus as his Savior. His ministries as deacon chairman, Sunday school teacher, and other service areas demonstrated his love for God and church. His six-year service in the National Guard, three years in the Color Guard, proved his love of country.

Mike is best remembered for his cheerful nature; not wantingto focus on himself, he made others more lighthearted. During his courageous battle with cancer, he shared his faith with others offering hope, comfort, and inspiration.

Mike was born October 11, 1947 to Carl Frederick Stecks Sr. and Ida Mae Eagle Stecks who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jo Anne Young Stecks of North Little Rock; son, Michael Edward Stecks Jr. of Lonoke; daughter, Ami Rachell Stecks of North Little Rock; granddaughter, Kennedy Anne Stecks; brother, Carl Frederick, II (Jane) Stecks of Little Rock; sister, Brenda (Randy) Smith of Russellville; his in-laws, Joe and Rachel Young and many nieces and nephews.

Thank you especially to Dr. Mendelsohn and his nurses; Little Rock Hematology chemo nurses and Baptist Hospice for their loving care and concern.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home, 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Ark., (501) 224-8300.
