GENTRY - The Gentry defense did everything it could to keep its team in the game Friday night.

Late in the fourth quarter, Pioneer defensive lineman, Dusty Haag, forced a fumble from Charleston quarterback, Ty Storey, to give the Pioneers the ball, down by just eight points.

Three plays later, Gentry running back, Jon Brown, gave the ball right back to the Tigers after a fumble which allowed Charleston to run the clock out and grab a 23-15 win at Pioneer Stadium.

“We weren’t real happy with the way our defense tackled in the fi rst half,”Charleston coach Greg Kendrick said. “But in the second half we made some great adjustments, and our defense played lights out, they were the reason we won that ball game.”

As well as their defense played in the second half, the Charleston offense played just as well in the first half. Arkansas commit, Storey, fi nished the first half with 267 passing yards and three touchdowns to give the Tigers the 20-9 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Gentry team made its own adjustments, forcing four turnovers to give the Pioneers a chance to take back control of the game.

“We came up short,we had our chances, and we forced turnovers. We just have to learn how to convert them,” Gentry coach Brian Little said. “It is something that we have to work on, we just can’t beat ourselves.” Extra Points

The kicking game was impressive for both teams as Charleston kicker Christian Taggart nailed a 38-yard field goal, only to be outdone by a 40-yard field goal by Gentry’s Enrike Zamora.

Storey finished the game with 374 yards passing and three touchdowns, but also with four of the Tigers’ fi ve turnovers (three interceptions and a fumble).
