Springtown approves code ofÿcer

SPRINGTOWN - Council members approved, on Friday, the mayor’s appointment of Bryan Lockamy to be the town’s new code enforcement officer and passed, on its second reading, an ordinance regulating the burning of dilapidated structures.

Following the resignation of the town’s previous code enforcement officer due to health reasons, the council approved the mayoral appointment of Lockamy to take over the city post. Lockamy’s qualifi cations and background were heard by the council prior to the decision, according to unapproved minutes.

An ordinance allowing for and regulating the burning of dilapidated buildings within the town was approved on a second reading and will be brought back for a fi nal readingand approval next month according to unapproved minutes of the Sept. 13 meeting.

Paul Lemke, Springtown’s mayor, reported that there are General Improvement Funds available via grants from the elected state senator and representative. Lemke requested of the council that he be allowed to apply for a $5,000 grant from each of these state offi cials, and a motion was made to allow the mayor to apply for these grants.

Lemke reported that work needs to be done on the bridge on Old Springtown Road and cost will be $2,900, according to draft minutes. A motion was made to allow the Mayor to spend $2,900 on this project.

Lemke said work on the drainage ditch in front of the fi re station was due to start in about two weeks He expects the pedestal atthe corner of Highway 12 and Springtown Road to be removed by Oct. 1.

Lemke said work being paid for by the FUN Park Improvement Grant has started in the town’s park He said he authorized a change order which increased the cost of the project from $40,000 to $40,739, according to draft minutes. The change will allow an increase in the play area by about 50 percent and will allow the placement of a play structure that has been donated. A handicap picnic table has been ordered and should arrive in 4-7 weeks according to Lemke - after the work in the park is expected to be completed.

Regarding leftover Federal Emergency Management Agency money for the Aubrey Long bridge project Lemke, according to draft minutes, said he was still waiting to hear from the FEMA offi ce.
