The Extension Homemakers Club met at the Community Building for the March meeting with 12 members present. Jewel Crawley was the hostess for the noon meal.

The meeting was called to order by the president and everyone was welcomed. Jewel Crawley led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. Inspiration was given by Gwen Singleton, entitled, "Her One Handled Rolling Pin!"

Jewel Crawley gave a very informative lesson on "You Can Be A Handy Person." We all have things that need to be repaired in our homes. Knowing a few handy tips on fixing them can save you big bucks. Just having confidence and courage that you can do it is half the battle. If you need more knowledge, you can go to the Internet or public library for an abundance of information. Also, the County Extension office is a good place to get information. You need basic tools for just about any job -- a hammer, tape measure, level, screwdrivers, hex key or allen wrench, pliers and scissors.

Some tips given included: When doing a fix it yourself project, if it involves water, gas or electric, make sure they are shut off properly before beginning the task. If you have a leaky toilet, you can put coloring in the water to determine where the leak is coming from. A sagging door can sometimes be fixed by just putting in longer screws.

Eye Opener was given by Nikki Crawley on reusing salt pour spout with canning jars. When finished with an empty cardboard salt container, cut the whole round top piece off and measure to fit a canning jar ring. Trace and cut with the flat part with scissors to fit a pint canning jar. Fill the jar with salt, sugar, coffee creamer, etc. The pour spouts make for easy access.

Cultural Art was given by Dianne Afuvai, who showed a baby quilt she was making and gadget she used to make the yo-yos with for a quicker, neater-looking finished product. Gwen Singleton showed a very old picture she had recently framed.

Katherine Tucker read the minutes and gave the financial report. Roll call was answered by telling of something that needed to be repaired around their home. A report was given on use of the building and dates that are scheduled on the calendar for usage. Business items of discussion were last minute plans for the upcoming spaghetti dinner, progress in securing heating and air for the building and Maysville Day Festival.

The meeting was adjourned with the benediction.
