Trammell honored for years of service

GENTRY -- Jeff Trammell was honored Thursday night with a plaque, recognizing his dedicated service to the Gentry Volunteer Fire Department for more than 20 years.

Kevin Johnston, Gentry's mayor and also a Gentry firefighter, and Vester Cripps, Gentry's fire chief, presented a plaque to Trammell in appreciation for his years of service.

Trammell retired Monday from the Gentry Volunteer Fire Department. He joined the department in 1994 and attended many hours of training and answered many calls over his 20 years of service, Cripps said.

"Jeff has been a great asset to our community and has played an important role in the growth and development of the Gentry Volunteer Fire Department," Johnston said. "Having worked beside him during his 20-plus years as a volunteer for Gentry, I can honestly say I understand the commitment and sacrifice he has made and I am grateful to him and his family for that."

According to a release from Cripps, Trammell became a career fireman in the early 2000s, working for XNA Fire Dept. In the mid-2000s, he went to work for Fayetteville Fire Dept., where he is still employed. He attended more than 500 training classes and has responded to more than 1,500 calls for help during his years of service. He obtained the certifications of Fire Fighter II, EMT and Haz-Mat Specialist. While at Gentry, he served as captain, assistant chief and also as training officer.
