GRAVETTE -- Gravette High School HOSA members attended the Arkansas hosa: Future Health Professionals State conference in Hot Springs, March 12-14.

"Sixty- six competitors made a wonderful showing at the conference," said Angela Scott, HOSA sponsor. "Their efforts brought home 32 medals, including 16 gold, nine silver, and seven bronze, which qualified 41 students for the National Conference and Competition."

The 16 gold medalists include: Destiny Laymon (Physical Therapy), Katelyn Sands (Vet Science), Mackenzie Overstreet (Researched and Persuasive Speaking), Taylor Eaton (Home Health Aide), Saber Treat (Pathophysiology), Peyton Scott and Shaelee Walderbach (CPR/ First Aid), Austina Lee (Medical Law and Ethics), Halle Webb (Dental Science), Taylor Bradley (Medical Assisting), Kaitlyn Sands (Nutrition), Lacey Newell and Brian Smithers (Forensic Medicine), Kennedy Bohannon (Nurse Assisting), Dariann Coffelt and Avery Burrow (CERT), Nick Newbill (Pharmacology), DaMayla Cowan (Life Support Skills) and Chasen Root (Biotechnology).

Nine Silver Medalists include: Marlie Ball and Holli McDonald (Forensic Science), Kevin Deady and Gage Woodcock (CERT), Cristina Bramel (Vet Science), Madison (Medical Assisting), Jaye Chalk and Kara Smith (CPR/ First Aid), Bryce Moorman (Biotechnology), Cristina Guerra (Extemporaneous Health Poster), Brandon Madl, Justin Greenwalt and Brennen Austin (Public Service Announcement) and Mariah Kelsheimer (Home Health Aide).

Seven Bronze Medalists include: Kinsley Hurtt (Home Health Aide), Cassandra Guerra (Medical Law and Ethics), Micayla Hendricks (Dental Science), Alicia Marchbanks (Medical Assisting), Rachel Jones (Vet Science), Lacey Robinson and Danica Tate (CERT), and Lauren Lambert (Human Growth and Development). Several parents traveled with the students to help chaperone and assist with the conference. The students and advisers would like to thank Mary Helen Smithers, Natalie Morrison, Lori Russell, Debi Graham, Lynda Roberts, Barbie Ogle, Deann Carson, Tonya Cowan and Trina Smith for traveling with them this year.

Currently, 38 Gravette HOSA students will be competing at the National level in Orlando, Fla. from June 24-30. To help the attendees pay for travel expenses, Gravette HOSA is hosting a spaghetti bingo night April 22 at 5:30 at the high school commons. A spaghetti dinner or bingo game will be $10 individually, a spaghetti dinner and bingo card set together will be $15. Additional bingo cards can be purchased for $3 a packet. "We will have nine games, all with prizes, starting at 7:00 p.m. Patrons may come for just the dinner, just bingo, or both. We hope to see you there!," Scott said.

The students will also be holding their annual hamburger sale on May 23. Lunches will include a fresh hamburger, chips, drink and Little Debbie treat. Lunches are $5 with all proceeds funding the attendees trip.
