Decatur baseball, softball teams fall short

DECATUR -- The Decatur Bulldogs baseball and softball teams traveled south April 11 to take on the Leftwich Rattlers at Magazine in a double-header.

The Bulldog baseball team lost the first game 10 to 0. In spite of the loss, Jason Porter, Decatur baseball coach, cited several times when the team showed promise.

"Two times in the game, we loaded the bases but failed to bring home a runner. We managed to get one player to second base, but that is as far as we managed to get," Porter said.

Jay Porter played well during the first game, striking out 4 batters.

One of the problems the baseball team has is consistency.

"We keep making little errors during the game," Porter recounts. "One little error leads to another and, before we know it, the other team has racked up points on the score board."

Those same mental errors also cost the Bulldogs the second game. They were defeated 11 to 1.

The Lady Bulldog softball team lost both of their games, 10 to 0 and 17 to 1.

"We just made several mistakes during the game," Coach Bill Niven stated. " Those errors kept snowballing until our opponents had a commanding lead."
