GRAVETTE -- The Lions grabbed the lead in the fourth inning of a defensive ballgame when Ethan Vanderpool scored on an RBI double to left field by Matthew Stelting and built on that lead in the fifth when Cody Fields drove in Wyatt Gibbons with a ground ball double to left.

Stilwell scored one run in the sixth on an RBI single by Jaret Scraper. But Stilwell wasn't able to do any more, giving Gravette a 2-1 victory in the non-conference game on April 8 in Gravette.

Brandon Shaw pitched the full seven innings for Gravette, allowing six hits and only one run. He walked two batters and struck out seven.

Gravette also had six hits in the game. Stelting led with two hits out of three at bats.

"That's how a baseball game is supposed to be played," said Gravette coach Randall Hunt, "solid defense on both sides with pitchers pounding the zone and making the other team put it in play, and some key executions that determines who wins the game."

"I very proud of the way my team worked for this win today, especially the effort Brandon Shaw gave on the mound," Hunt said.

"In order for us to be successful down the stretch in postseason, we need guys like Brandon to step up and contribute, and he sure did that today!" Hunt added.
