Hiwasse Farmers' Market

A farmers' market will be opening in Hiwasse on the first Saturday in May and will continue to be open there throughout the summer months. The market will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Saturday at the vacant lot, near Not Too Shabby, in Hiwasse. Items featured will be local produce and craft items. More information on the farmers' market, as well as information on selling crafts or produce there, is available by calling Julie Holloway at 479-531-1551.

Gravette Community Gardens

The ground is being prepared at Gravette Community Gardens for those who wish to garden a free 12 x 12 or 12 x 24 foot plot this spring and summer. Applications and rules can be picked up and dropped off at the Gravette Arvest Bank, or by emailing [email protected]. The garden is located across Arkansas Highway 59 from the Arvest Bank. These plots will be assigned on a first come-first, first-serve basis. Some seeds and plants will be provided. All in the local communities, families and civic groups are invited to take part. Gentry AG Revival

The congregation of First Assembly of God and Pastor Wes Bennett invite the public to join them for special revival services this Sunday, May 4, at 10:45 a.m. and 6 p.m. Evangelist Lavon Piker will be the special guest speaker. Nursery will be provided. The church is located at 821 East Main Street in Gentry, just east of the Dollar General store.

Bethel Cemetery Work Day

Work day at Bethel Cemetery south of Gravette is Saturday, May 3, at 9 a.m. Workers are asked to "please come out and help us keep our cemetery beautiful. We appreciate your help." Contact Betty Russow, 479-787-0625 for information.

Senior Center Quilt Raffle

A queen-size quilt made and donated by Betty Howard will be given away May 23 by the Billy V. Hall Senior Activity and Wellness Center. Tickets are $1 or six for $5. Participants need not be present to win. All proceeds go to help finance the Meals on Wheels program which serves Gravette, Sulphur Springs, Decatur, Hiwasse and Maysville. Tickets are available at the center.

Maysville Yard Sale

The Maysville Extension Homemakers club is sponsoring the annual community yard sale on May 31 at the Maysville Community Building. The club is renting booths for $10. Call Gwen Singleton at 479-291-4520 to reserve a booth.

Adopt a Senior

Gentry Senior Activity Center is part of the Hunger Coalition in Benton and Washington County and seeks to be sure no senior citizen goes hungry. To help, a senior citizen can be adopted and meals provided for them. The cost to prepare one meal is $5.79, but GSAC offers them to seniors for a donation of $3. People can help by buying a meal for a senior for a day, a week or a month. Donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 1467 in Gentry, or dropped by the center any day between 9 am and 4 p.m.

Gravette Farmers' Market

The Gravette Farmers' Market is open for its seventh season, just off Arkansas Highway 72, in Old Town Park. It will be open every Saturday from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. until November. The market will feature locally-grown produce, plants, creative and artistic craft items and wholesome baked goods. USDA WIC vouchers, Senior Nutrition Program vouchers, Double-the-Money senior coupons and tokens will be accepted. Gentry Farmers' Market

The 2014 Gentry Farmers' Market will be held at the Main Street Pavilion, 500 East Main Street, with Melissa Graef as the director. Those with produce may set up under the pavilion in the 11 by 14 foot space. The Pavilion, which will provide shelter from the rain and sun, is at the corner of Arkansas Highway 59 and Main Street. There will be a small fee for booth space. Those interested may talk to Melissa at the Chicken Coop Flea Market or call for details, 871-1052. Spring Fling

Gentry's annual Spring Fling will be held Thursday through Saturday, May 1 to 3. Anyone planning to have a spring garage sale, antique or collectibles sale, is urged to participate in the citywide event. Anyone who would like to set up a booth along Arkansas Highway 59 may call Bev Saunders to reserve a space, 736-2358.

'Old Timers Day' Booths

Applications are being accepted now from crafters and vendors who wish to reserve space at the annual "Old Timers Day" in Southwest City, Mo. Free booth space is available for the Saturday, May 3, event. Booths will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Main Street in Southwest City. NWA Riding Club

Playdays

NWA Riding Club playdays began Saturday, April 5, at the Luca Don Equestrian Center, located 4 miles west of Gentry on Arkansas Highway 12. Sign-up time is 5:30 p.m., with activities beginning promptly at 6. Playday rodeo competitions will be held every other Saturday. Events include pole bending, flags, barrels and speed race. Music Festival

The Siloam Music Festival will present its spring concert featuring a "Tribute to Mothers" on Mother's Day, May 11. It will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the auditorium at the First Baptist Church in Siloam Springs. Featuring 55 of the top talented teenagers from area high schools, there will be a wide variety of music and theatrical arts, including Broadway, comedy, dance, religious, jazz, Show-tunes and a patriotic gymnastics routine. Men's Fellowship

First Baptist Church of Gentry has a monthly men's fellowship gathering at 8 a.m. on the third Saturday of each month. All men are welcome to come for food and fellowship. Guests are welcome. For more information, contact Madden Waits at 736-5009.

Church Singing

Mount Zion Missionary Baptist in Sulphur Springs holds a singing service every fourth Saturday of the month, starting at 6:30 p.m. A potluck dinner follows. For more information, call Jheri Roberts, the pastor, at 752-7082.

Gravette Lions Club

Gravette Lions Club meets at 1 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of every month at the Billy V. Hall Wellness and Activity Center on Limekiln Road in Gravette. New members are welcome.

Gentry Lions Club

Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of each month in the McKee Community Room, in the Gentry Public Library, on Main Street at N. Collins Ave. New members and visitors are welcome.

Gravette Legion

Gravette American Legion Post 25 meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Gravette Kiwanis

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Decatur VFW Meetings

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is three miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102 and right on Tilly's Hill Road.
