Lions pick up big wins n Boys defeat Berryville, Girls beat Prairie Grove and West Fork

GRAVETTE -- The Lady Lions picked up another two wins last week in play at Prairie Grove and West Fork.

The Lady Lions came back in the fourth inning Thursday from a 1-0 deficit to Prairie Grove when Jaye Chalk sacrificed to second to drive in Meagan Ward, and Melanie Bunch doubled to center field to bring home Emily Miller and Samantha Pruitt.

The Lady Lions added another run in the top of the sixth when Chalk hit a line-drive triple to right field and then was brought home by a Bunch sacrifice.

Ashleigh Horn pitched all seven innings, struck out six and walked two. She allowed Prairie Grove only one run on four hits.

Meagan Ward and Melanie Bunch led their teammates with the bat. Bunch had one hit and three RBIs. Ward had two hits and scored once.

The final was Gravette 4, Prairie Grove 1.

Against West Fork on Friday, the Lady Lions picked up a big win, scoring 12 runs on 10 hits and holding West Fork to one run on two hits.

Gravette took the lead for good in the top of the third when Ward scored on an error and Abbi Krewson, courtesy runner for Emily Miller, later stole home.

The Gravette girls built on that lead in the top of the fifth when Destiny Laymon scored on another error, Horn and Ward came home on walks and Krewson scored on a steal.

Megan McAfee scored in the sixth after she tripled and was batted in by a Laymon bunt to the pitcher. Laymon later scored on a passed ball and Ward was brought home by a Pruitt single.

Chasity Hubbard and Ward scored in the final Gravette at-bat on hits by Hubbard, Jessica Crawley and Horn.

The Lady Lions fell April 18 to Rogers-Heritage, 6-4. Though Gravette took the lead in the bottom of the fifth and the Lady Lions were up, 3-1, they couldn't stop Heritage in the sixth and seventh and fell in the non-conference game.
