Maysville E.H. Club News

The Maysville Extension Homemakers Club members met at the community building for the April meeting, which was attended by 12 members. Sylvia Tucker was hostess for the noon meal.

Orpha Wardlaw called the meeting to order. Melinda Crawley led the group singing "Whistle While You Work" followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Gwen Singleton shared a short inspirational reading entitled "A Priceless Gift." Melinda Crawley also shared readings entitled "Exciting Years" and "Blessings of Springtime."

The lesson was given by Orpha on "Stop Hoarding!" Clutter can take away from the quality of life. It increases anxiety and distracts from the big picture in your life. Did you know, on average, people spend six minutes looking for their keys in the morning, 80 percent of what we keep we never use and, due to clutter, 25 percent of people can't get their cars in their garage! Clutter grows out of control. Clutter can be items that are broken, things you no longer use, items that no longer fit, hobby stuff you never have time for, magazines, newspapers and the list goes on and on. Learn to deal with clutter by disposing of it or getting it organized so you can find it quickly when you need it. When you don't have to spend a lot of time looking for "things" it makes for a better mood and better relationships. Keep things from coming in -- ask yourself, "Do I really need this?" before you bring it home. Avoid impulse buying. De-clutter and enjoy life more!

Several eye openers were given, including using cloves for moth repellent and washing wool fabrics in baby shampoo.

Jewel Crawley showed a man's tie that had been converted to a handy cell phone carrier.

Katherine Tucker called the roll and gave the secretary-treasurers report. Reports were given by the building and maintenance committees. We discussed the annual spring community yard sale which will be May 31. Anyone who would like to participate may reserve a booth for $10 by calling Gwen Singleton at 479-291-4520. The club will sell sandwiches, snacks and drinks. All proceeds from the booth rental go toward expenses and upkeep of the building. Spring Council will be May 2. We are to bring nonperishable food items, small toys and books for the Ronald McDonald House which is a County E.H. project. We talked about the Maysville Fun Day which will be June 20. This is a time when all the county clubs meet at Maysville for a day of fun, food and education. Our club will provide breakfast food, drinks and table decorations.

The meeting was dismissed with the benediction.
