Gravette Day parade to have co-grand marshals

GRAVETTE -- One of the most exciting events connected with the annual Gravette Days celebration is always the Gravette Day parade.

This year's parade is scheduled for 12 noon and will feature the Gravette High School marching band and a variety of colorful floats, including several carrying classes holding reunions. The candidates competing for the title of Miss Gravette 2014 will also be riding in the parade.

Hidee Duncan and Jacquie Queen have been chosen co-grand marshals for this year's parade. Hidee is a 1991 graduate of Gravette High School who served as Gravette Day chairwoman from 1992 through 2007. Jacquie was a member of the 1979 GHS graduating class and served as Gravette Day co-chairwoman from 1999 through 2007.

They were chosen for this honor in appreciation for the many hours of hard work they put into making past Gravette Days a success.

Parade lineup is in the middle school parking lot. Parade entries should arrive by 11:30 and everyone should be in line by 11:45. The parade will progress down Charlotte Street to Highway 59, then north on Highway 59 to Gravette Main Street and back on Main to Kindley Park.

Immediately following the parade, at about 12:30, Arvest Bank will be offering free slices of watermelon at its booth in Kindley Park.

Other vendors offering refreshments in the park will include the Gravette pee wee football league with its popular homemade lemonade, the Boys and Girls Club serving barbecue sandwiches and a PTO booth offering snow cones and cotton candy.

The Booster Club will have a booth selling T-shirts and offering Booster Club membership. The Bank of Gravett's "Back to School" booth, next to the pavilion, will support area students with free school supplies.
