Lockhart to be commended

Thankful for Ross Lockhart's Service

Editor,

Our community is fortunate to have benefited from the leadership of many talented people over the years. I would like to commend the leadership of an individual from whom our schools, parents, students and athletic programs have benefited. This individual is Ross Lockhart.

I have been a resident of the Gravette area for many years. During this time I have served in a volunteer and/or leadership capacity with the Booster Club.

Ross has been one of the best with whom I've had the privilege to serve. I have been directly involved with Ross during his service on the Gravette Lion Pride Boosters, most recently while he was serving as president for a term that just concluded. Ross brought a great deal of leadership and organization to our club.

I also know Ross is also active in his church, serving as a teacher, elder and leader.

Our community has greatly benefited from his knowledge and experience.

I would like to publicly thank Ross for his dedication, commitment, untold hours of volunteer work, and especially for his leadership. I know I speak for many when I say, "Thank you, Ross Lockhart, for your service to our community."

Fun Day at Safari

Editor,

Last year, October of 2013, SWEPCO condemned [a portion] of the Gentry Wild Wilderness Safari Park 4 to build a 345 kV transmission line. To protect Safari visitors and wildlife from the harmful effects of electromagnetic radiation and the SWEPCO crews working on the line, the owners of the Safari moved the wildlife out of Park 4.

With many people wondering, "How could SWEPCO ignore the 50 year-old family-owned and operated Safari when planning the transmission line?" a Facebook page "Save the Gentry Safari 4" was created to keep Northwest Arkansas informed. Lacey Ledbetter led the effort at the request of her beautiful 2-year-old daughter. Today, over 4,000 fans follow the Safari saga online, in solidarity with the Wilmoth family. This is a great testimony of the love the community has for the Safari and the Wilmoths. Arkansas cares!

Several "Fun at the Safari" visits have taken place, and more are planned. Today, Saturday, Aug. 2, a group of Safari fans came to visit Leon and his family. It was a beautiful summer day with fun for everyone.

SWEPCO plans a second 50-mile 345 kV line, the second leg of a much larger loop, from Shipe Road Station to the proposed Kings River Station near Berryville. SWEPCO failed to show a public need for this line. Save the Ozarks, an awesome grass roots opposition group supported by everyone in NWA has requested the SWEPCO Application be denied by APSC.
