Christmas events planned in Gentry, Decatur

GENTRY -- Gentry's annual Chamber of Commerce Christmas parade and visit from Santa are set for Saturday, Dec. 13, along Gentry's Main Street and Chamber of Commerce building.

Children can tell Santa their wishes and get a treat bag from 3:30 to 6 p.m. at the Gentry Chamber of Commerce Building, located at 212 East Main Street (the 1904 bank building). Parents are welcomed and encouraged to bring cameras and phones for pictures of their children with Santa.

Gentry Public Library is planning an open house from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13. The event will feature free family library memberships, refreshments and a drawing at 5 p.m.

Then, following the Santa visits, the annual Christmas Parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. and run west along Gentry's Main Street.

There is no entry fee or preregistration, so individuals and groups are encouraged to come out and participate. Float entries should be at the Nelson Feed Company (formerly Curran Feed Company) at 5:30 p.m. on the evening of Dec. 13 for lineup.

There will be $100 in Gentry Bucks awarded for the entries with best theme, best lighting and best music. There will be $200 in Gentry Bucks awarded for the best overall.

DECATUR -- The Decatur Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual Christmas Festival at Northside Elementary Dec. 12 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Christmas Parade is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and will begin lineup at 5:30 p.m. at Decatur City Hall.

The parade route begins at City Hall on Day Street to Roller Avenue, then turns on Fourth Street to Church Avenue. From Church Avenue, the parade will continue down Main Street to Jo Avenue and end back at City Hall.
