Volunteers Needed
Volunteers are needed at the Gentry Public Library. Morning shifts are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Afternoon shifts are from 1 to 5 p.m. To work at the circulation desk, volunteers need to be familiar with computers and how to relate to the public.
Gentry Choir Concert
Gentry Choirs will present their Christmas concert at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14, at the High School auditorium. The community is invited to come out and enjoy the concert and hear the students' work.
Bake Sale
A bake sale for Project Prom is planned for 8:30 a.m to 4 p.m., Dec. 12, in the Bank of Gravett main lobby. The Gravette High School Project Prom Committee is sponsoring the bake sale to raise funds for Project Prom. Project Prom is a safe, fun, chaperoned, drug and alcohol free after prom event for students. Area residents are urged to come out and support local students and purchase some baked goodies to enjoy for the holidays. Library Open House
Gentry Public Library is planning an open house from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13. The event will feature free family library memberships, refreshments and a drawing at 5 p.m.
Highfill Planning Meeting
Highfill's December planning commission meeting will be moved up from Dec. 23 to Dec. 16.
Truth Project
An informal weekly Bible research seminar called "The Truth Project" began at 7 p.m., Dec. 4, and continues through mid February at the In-Zone Restaurant in Gravette, at 106 First Ave., N.E. (one block north of Main Street on Arkansas Highway 59). Timothy Horton will facilitate the event. All are welcome. For more information, call Horton at 605-999-9321.
Highfill Food Pantry
Highfill United Methodist Church has opened a food pantry at 15000 W. Arkansas Highway 12 in Highfill. The pantry will be open the second Wednesday of each month from 6 to 8 p.m. A photo ID and a bill with proof of local address will be required. The pantry is accepting donations of canned and boxed food at that time. Outdated food items cannot be accepted.
Advent Bible Study
The Gravette United Methodist Church invites the public to join them in an Advent Bible study, which began Sunday evening, Nov. 30. The study will focus on the birth of Jesus Christ through his mother's eyes and will continue on Sunday evenings through Dec. 21, with meetings from 6 to 7:30 each evening. Holiday Book Sale
The Gravette Public Library, at 407 Charlotte St. S.E., is holding a holiday book sale during the month of December. Come to the sale room in the library and you can get a whole bag of books for only $1. Library hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
History Book Stories/Orders Deadline Extended
The Gentry History Book Committee has extended the deadline for both family stories and book purchases to Dec. 15. Please send family stories and/or money for the history books to Gentry Chamber of Commerce History Book Committee, P.O. Box 642, Gentry, AR 72734. Both stories and book orders are still needed. The book is expected to be published and distributed in late spring of 2015. Only those who pre-order a book will be guaranteed to receive one. Christmas with Santa
Children can tell Santa their wishes and get a treat bag from 3:30 to 6 p.m. on Dec. 13 at the Gentry Chamber of Commerce Building, located at 212 East Main Street (the 1904 bank building). Parents are welcomed and encouraged to bring cameras and phones for pictures.
Annual Christmas Parade
The annual Christmas Parade will be Dec. 13, beginning at 6:30 p.m. There is no entry fee or preregistration. Float entries should be at the Nelson Feed Company (formerly Curran Feed Company) at 5:30 p.m. on the evening of Dec. 13 for lineup. There will be $100 in Gentry Bucks awarded for the best theme, best lighting and best music. There will be $200 in Gentry Bucks awarded for the best overall. Library Commission
One position is open on the Gravette Public Library Commission. The commission is seeking a candidate to fill this volunteer position. Anyone wishing an opportunity to contribute to the development of the growing Gravette library system and its outreach should send a resume and letters of recommendation to the library at 407 Charlotte Street S.E., Gravette, AR 72736 or drop them off at Gravette City Hall on Highway 59.
Men's Fellowship
First Baptist Church of Gentry has a monthly men's fellowship gathering at 8 a.m. on the third Saturday of each month. All men are welcome to come for food and fellowship. Guests are welcome. For more information, contact Madden Waits at 736-5009.
Mason Valley Baptist
Singing Services
Monthly singing services at Mason Valley Baptist Church Activity Center are held at 7 p.m. the second Friday of each month. The church is located on Arkansas Highway 12 midway between Highfill and Vaughn.
Church Singing
Mount Zion Missionary Baptist in Sulphur Springs holds a singing service every fourth Saturday of the month, starting at 6:30 p.m. A potluck dinner follows. For more information, call Jheri Roberts, the pastor, at 752-7082.
Gravette Lions Club
Gravette Lions Club meets at 1 p.m. on the first and the third Tuesday of every month at the Billy V. Hall Wellness and Activity Center on Limekiln Road in Gravette. New members are welcome.
Gravette Kiwanis
The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.
Gentry Lions Club
Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of each month in the McKee Community Room, in the Gentry Public Library, on Main Street at N. Collins Ave. New members and visitors are welcome.
Gravette Legion
Gravette American Legion Post 25 meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.
Singing Services
Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.
Decatur VFW Meetings
VFW Post 9834 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is three miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102 and right on Tilly's Hill Road.
