GENTRY -- Walmart's Bentonville Transportation Office chose Gentry Primary School as the recipient of a $4,135.38 donation earned by drivers for safe miles driven from Aug. 9 through Aug. 15 of this year. A check was presented to the school on Friday by Bob Dixon, general transportation manager at the Bentonville distribution center, and Debbie Hall, Human Resources Office manager in Bentonville.

The Walmart Foundation is committed to education and donated a penny per safe mile driven by Walmart's private fleet drivers during that time period. Walmart transportation offices nationwide contributed $130,000 to schools last year. The local transportation office in Bentonville chose Gentry Primary School to receive its portion of the money provided through safe driving on the part of Walmart drivers this year -- money provided by safe driving for 413,538 miles during the one-week period from drivers operating out of the Bentonville distribution center.

"This is just one of many ways Walmart supports education across the country," said Dixon. "It's also a great way to engage all our drivers in raising money for our local schools," he added.

Walmart's Private Fleet is one of the largest in the nation, having nearly 7,200 drivers serving the more than 4,400 Walmart and Sam's Club locations across the U.S.
