Decatur student picked for all-region band

DECATUR -- Timothy Skaggs recently made the 2014 Region VI Junior High All-Region Honor Band.

Skaggs placed in first band, sixth chair tuba. He was among 40 tubas from area schools, including Bentonville and Rogers, competing for 12 spots.

Auditions were held at Washington Junior High in Bentonville this past Saturday. Skaggs prepared selected audition music, played two scales from memory which were chosen that morning and had to sight read a piece he had not seen before.

He was scored by two judges on the following factors: note accuracy, rhythm accuracy, musical expression and tone quality.

Skaggs participated in the ASBOA Region VI junior high honor band clinic and concert Dec. 12.

The concert rehearsals, which were directed by Lewis Clark from Fayetteville's Ramey Junior High, started at 1 p.m. on Friday at Rogers High School and continued Friday night and Saturday morning, culminating with the 2 p.m. concert.
