Energy-saving kits presented to students

GENTRY -- Empire District Electic presented Energy Wise educational kits to Gentry Middle School students on Dec. 16.

The Energy Wise program is designed to introduce students and their families to the money-saving potential of simple, easy-to-implement energy and water conservation practices. Educational kits and resources are also provided to educators for use in the classroom.

Each kit contains a student guide and workbook, home audit form and energy-saving devices students can use in their home, such as compact fluorescent light bulbs, a low-flow shower head, kitchen aerator, digital appliance thermometer and more.

Since the inception of the program three years ago, more than 1,000 students in Empire's Arkansas service area have been provided Energy Wise kits. Each kit provides energy savings of up to 300 kilowatt hours per year. Through this effort, customers are better able to understand and control their energy use, resulting in lower energy bills and environmental benefits.
