Gravette city council approves truck purchase, honors mayor

GRAVETTE -- In a short meeting last Thursday night, the Gravette City Council approved the contract for purchase of a 2015 3/4-ton Ford 250XL pickup for the water department at a cost of $22,415. The four-wheel-drive vehicle will replace a 2006 vehicle which will be put up as surplus.

Council members unanimously approved the holiday calendar for 2015 and the calendar of council meetings for the year.

A third reading of the zoning map ordinance was tabled until the next meeting. Council member Bob Robinson said he understood the position of owners of the property adjoining the Hiwasse property under consideration for rezoning. They were not opposed to it being rezoned commercial. They were simply concerned about which classification it would receive. Mayor Byron Warren said it and the nearby commercial property would only be eligible for the C-3 classification, residential commercial.

Prior to the meeting, a Gravette citizen addressed the council members asking for relief on his water bill. Mayor Warren responded by saying he felt the city had done all it could to help the customer.

At the end of the meeting, Mayor Warren was presented a plaque in appreciation for his four years of service as Gravette's mayor. He said it had been a pleasure working for the city and working with this council.

All council members were present but Amy Rambadt. City attorney David Bailey and city recorder Mike von Ree were also present.
