— Nominations Sought

Gentry’s Annual Awards Night will be Thursday, Feb. 19, at the Wooden Spoon Restaurant in Gentry. Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. and the program will begin at 7 p.m. Deadline for award nominations is Jan. 30. The chamber is currently taking nominations for 2014 Outstanding Volunteer, 2014 Outstanding Businessperson, 2014 Outstanding Civic Organization, 2014 Rookie of the Year and 2014 Outstanding Citizen. The Chamber of Commerce board of directors will vote on the nominations. The chamber is also accepting nominations for the Lifetime Achievement Awards. The purpose of this award is to honor those who have made a positive impact on Gentry and to make sure they are not forgotten in the town’s history. It is suggested that the honorees lived and/or worked and/or volunteered in the community for a minimum of 25 years. Nominations can be living or deceased individuals. County Conservation Meeting

The regular meeting of the Benton County Conservation District will be held at the USDA, Natural Resources Service Center in Bentonville at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 8. For further information about the meeting, contact Gail Sparks at 479-273-2622, ext. 3.

GED Classes Offered

Anyone interested in earning a GED, may come to the Gravette Public Library, 407 Charlotte St. S.E., on Monday, Jan. 12, at 4 p.m. This special GED orientation time will give those interested the opportunity to ask questions and learn about the GED program. Spring classes will begin on Wednesday, Jan. 14. Gravette GED classes will be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 4 to 6 p.m. through May 6, 2015.

Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are needed at the Gentry Public Library. Morning shifts are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Afternoon shifts are from 1 to 5 p.m. To work at the circulation desk, volunteers need to be familiar with computers and how to relate to the public.

Highfill Food Pantry

Highfill United Methodist Church has opened a food pantry at 15000 W. Arkansas Highway 12 in Highfill. The pantry will be open the second Wednesday of each month from 6 to 8 p.m. A photo ID and a bill with proof of local address will be required. The pantry is accepting donations of canned and boxed food at that time. Outdated food items cannot be accepted.

Holiday Book Sale

The Gravette Public Library, at 407 Charlotte St. S.E., is holding a holiday book sale during the month of December. Come to the sale room in the library and you can get a whole bag of books for only $1. Library hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Men’s Fellowship

First Baptist Church of Gentry has a monthly men’s fellowship gathering at 8 a.m. on the third Saturday of each month. All men are welcome to come for food and fellowship. Guests are welcome. For more information, contact Madden Waits at 736-5009.

Mason Valley Baptist Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Mason Valley Baptist Church Activity Center are held at 7 p.m. the second Friday of each month. The church is located on Arkansas Highway 12 midway between Highfill and Vaughn.

Church Singing

Mount Zion Missionary Baptist in Sulphur Springs holds a singing service every fourth Saturday of the month, starting at 6:30 p.m. A potluck dinner follows. For more information, call Jheri Roberts, the pastor, at 752-7082.

Gravette Lions Club

Gravette Lions Club meets at 1 p.m. on the first and the third Tuesday of every month at the Billy V. Hall Wellness and Activity Center on Limekiln Road in Gravette. New members are welcome.

Gravette Kiwanis

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Gentry Lions Club

Gentry Lions Club meets at 6:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Monday of each month in the McKee Community Room, in the Gentry Public Library, on Main Street at N. Collins Ave. New members and visitors are welcome.

Gravette Legion

Gravette American Legion Post 25 meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Decatur VFW Meetings

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is three miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102 and right on Tilly’s Hill Road.
