DECATUR -- The Decatur Police Department needs the public's help in finding a vintage automobile stolen from a garage in Decatur.

The 1961 Chevrolet Impala convertible was reported stolen Dec. 21 by Carlos Oritz of Decatur. Oritz last saw the car, which is white with black trim, in his shop on Main St. on Dec. 14.

Entry to Oritz' shop was through a locked security door, fortified with steel bars, in the rear of the building.

Upon returning to his shop sometime Sunday, Oritz noticed a set of fresh tire marks leading into the building.

Decatur Police Chief Terry Luker believes that the perpetrators used the noise of a passing Kansas City Southern freight train to mask the sound of the break in.

Ortiz is offering a $1,000 reward for the return of his vehicle.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the car should contact the Decatur Police Department at 752-3911.
