GRAVETTE -- A sluggish economy during recent years appears to be coming to an end in Gravette, as indicated by the number of building permits issued by the city during the past several months.

Permits issued in 2013 and during the last weeks of 2012 totaled nearly $2,000,000 according to Gravette's building inspector, David Smith. Residential permit value totaled $1,278,078, with $654,00 total for commercial/non-residential construction.

Sixteen permits have been issued in the city: 13 were for new homes; the remaining three for commercial or non-residential construction.

Seven of the new homes are located in central Gravette, including two completed on Lion Drive in the Walnut Creek subdivision. Four are under construction on Mulberry Street in the Patriot Park subdivision, and one new home is located on Limekiln Road. The eighth permit is for a smaller residence located adjacent highway 72 east of Gravette.

Five permits were issued for residential construction in the Hiwasse area. Three are for homes which were moved from Bella Vista and relocated on Loyle Lane, where a new home was also constructed. The relocated houses were originally model homes constructed in the late 1990s by Cooper Community. They were moved to make room for commercial development in the Village.

Commercial Building

Construction of a mini-mall adjacent Arkansas Highway 59 in south Gravette, which began in May, has been completed. And, the addition of a safe room and adjacent meeting room at the Senior Housing Complex is well under way. Another permit was for Parsons Blinds in Hiwasse for a major addition for their business.

Numerous permits were issued for smaller remodeling and other upgrades for existing structures in the city.
