GRAVETTE -- In their first meeting with Gentry this season, it took Gravette's boys three quarters just to score 15 points.

It wasn't about to happen a second time Feb. 11. The Lions needed only four minutes to reach that total and maintained their faster pace en route to a 75-59 victory over the Pioneers.

The win, coupled with Farmington's win over Pea Ridge, moved Gravette (18-7, 9-4) into sole possession of third place in the league standings with one game remaining.

"We want the game up in the 70's and 80's," Lions coach Dustin Peters said. "They want to play at a slower pace, so we applied some pressure early and focused on getting an early lead.

"We're not a pressing team, but I thought it was effective in trying to speed them up and make them play at a pace they're not comfortable with. We had more guys step up and had eight players score. Terence Pierce and Otto Troutner will get theirs, but I thought Cole Turner shot real well."

Gravette scored the first eight points and enjoyed a 19-2 lead on Max Greenway's bucket with 1 minute, 29 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Turner and Pierce led the early charge, each hitting a pair of 3-pointers.

Gentry (2-18, 0-13) closed out the first quarter with Matt Juillerat's 3-pointer and made it 19-5, but it was as close as the Pioneers could get. Gravette quickly extended its lead to a 30-9 margin on Austin White's bucket with 4:31 before halftime, and Jackson Soule's 3-pointer gave the Lions their biggest lead, 71-48, with 3:57 remaining before both teams turned the game over to reserves.

"Gravette comes out and shoots the ball that well, and did some things defensively that caught us off-guard," Gentry coach Sean Price said. "Once we got down 12-2 and 14-2, it was tough to continue playing our style. We got in a hole and could never dig out of it."

Pierce had 23 points to lead four Gravette players in double figures, followed by Otto Troutner with 18, Turner with 12 and White with 10. Wally Dane made 16 to lead Gentry, while Dusty Haag added 13 and Juillerat 12.

The Lions played Lincoln on Friday night, winning 82-79 in a hard-fought fight.

Gentry scored the last nine points of the first half to take the lead for good, then pulled away in the fourth quarter for its first 4A-1 Conference win of the season.

Karoline Page scored 23 points for the Lady Pioneers (6-22, 1-12), while Haley Borgeteien-James added 16. Sam Pruitt and Kylee Davis each scored 13 for Gravette (5-16, 3-9), which was to travel to Ozark in a makeup game at 3 p.m. last Wednesday.

The Lady Lions lost to Ozark, 67-34, but came back to win against Lincoln on Friday night, 61-52.
