DECATUR -- For one Decatur basketball player, the Hackett game Feb. 14 was the end of a three-year adventure.

Hannah Ramsey, a senior at Decatur High School, played her last regular season game at Peterson Gym. However, her basketball career is not over quite yet. Ramsey, along with her teammates, will play in the district tournament this week in Eureka Springs.

Ramsey has been a heavy hitter for the Lady Bulldogs, averaging 10 points a game this season, a marked improvement over her junior year when she averaged 6 points a game.

She is a quiet, somewhat shy person who possesses a positive outlook. When Ramsey takes to the court, she is all business. She stands her ground when called upon to block access to the net, strip a rebound from an opposing player or move to the basket for a jump shot.

For Bill Niven, girls' basketball coach, Ramsey is one of his most experienced and game savvy players.

"I love working with her because she is so easy to work with," Niven states. "Out here in practice, if you tell her something, she will get right into it."

But her high school sports career is not over just yet. She plans on participating on the Decatur track and field team, where she will throw the shot put and discus.

After graduation, she plans to find a job locally so she can mentor her little sister in basketball.

"I am going to mentor my sister and I can't do that if I go away," Ramsey said with a big smile.

With the vast knowledge and love of basketball that Ramsey displays, it is almost for certain that in a few years there will be another Ramsey following in her big sister's footsteps.
