FARMINGTON -- Berryville withstood a fourth quarter charge by Gravette to knock the Lady Lions out of the district girls' basketball tournament last Wednesday at Farmington.

Samantha Pruitt and Kylie Davis combined for the first seven points, giving the Lady Lions an early, 7-2, lead, but Berryville came back to tie the game before Davis threw a lob pass over the defense to Jaye Chalk for a 9-7 Gravette advantage after one quarter.

Things went south in the second for Gravette as the Lady Lions could only manage four points while the Bobcats put up 23 to seize a 30-14 halftime lead.

"We had a bad second quarter. We got in a hole, but I'm proud of my girls. They didn't lay down at all," said Gravette coach Will Pittman. "We came back and got it down to five points in the fourth."

"Samantha Pruitt and Kylie Davis both played real well. Everybody was real gutty and we played a lot better on the boards in the second half."

In the third quarter, the Lady Lions out scored Berryville to the tune of 12-7, narrowing their deficit to 37-26 and pulled within, 37-32 within the first minute of the final frame with a pair of Pruitt scores and Ella Duke's free throw.

Berryville then got layups from McKenzie Ruiz, Sara Johnson and Ally Teague before Davis worked her way in to hit a short-range jumper, keeping Gravette within, 43-34. Davis came away with a steal and converted in transition to hold the margin, at 47-40, at the 1:55 mark. Pruitt curled left-to-right, then stopped and cut back inside where Davis found her for a 3-point play. The hoop and harm made the score, 51-43, with 1:16 showing; but Britni Smith hit a floater for Berryville and Gravette didn't score again, losing 54-43.
