GENTRY -- Employees of the city of Gentry were treated to a city-sponsored dinner on Dec. 12 and to news of a Christmas bonus on their paychecks the following day.

A dinner was held at the Wooden Spoon Restaurant for all employees of the city of Gentry, including members of the volunteer fire department. Employees and their families were treated to the special dinner by the city as a token of appreciation for their service to the city and its residents over the year.

Mayor Kevin Johnston and council woman Janice Arnold addressed the employees and voiced the appreciation of the council and the city for the hard work and excellent service the employees had provided. Johnston also read a letter from councilman Jason Barrett, who was checking roads to determine if Gentry Schools could open on Friday and could not attend. The letter from Barrett shared the theme of thanks and appreciation for the employees' service.

Also announced at the special dinner was a council-approved bonus for all city employees -- $500 for full-time and $250 for part-time -- which was to be included on that Friday's paycheck. The council approved the bonuses at its December meeting but also asked that the bonuses be first announced publicly at the Thursday dinner.
