SULPHUR SPRINGS -- The annual Sulphur Springs Christmas celebration came about in stages this year. It started Nov. 24 with an annual charity auction and ended Dec. 21 when Santa received children's requests.

On Nov. 24, area auctioneer Dwayne Craig helped raise about $3,000 to fund Christmas gifts. Next, volunteers put up lights in City Park the day before the Dec. 7 annual Christmas Progressive Dinner.

The dinner began with hot cider and chocolate in City Park's green building. The second leg moved to Harbor House, where a quartet entertained guests with their rendition of "Christmas Bells." The night finished at Shiloh Christian Center auditorium with a children's drumming of "Little Drummer Boy."

The Sulphur Springs Volunteer Fire Department organized Santa Claus' visit for area children in the school gym. The night before Santa's visit volunteers wrapped gifts in the firehouse.
