GRAVETTE -- Batter Up! Play Ball! Those are hardly words you'd expect to hear in January when the snow is flying and temperatures dip to single digits.

But, according to the Gravette Summer Baseball/Softball Organization, it is time to register for next spring and summer participation in the program which serves hundreds of boys and girls in the Gravette area.

The program is open for boys ages 4-15 as of May 1, 2014, and girls ages 4-16 as of Jan. 1, 2014.

Registration will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. next Monday, Jan. 13, and Tuesday, Jan. 28, at the Arvest Bank conference room.

Registration can also be completed at the Gravette Middle School gymnasium from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25.

Applicants may also register online and pay their fees with a credit or debit card at www.leaguelineup.com/gravette. A $3 fee will be added for processing.

The fee for 4-12 year-old boys and girls is $35; 13-15 boys' fee is $75; and 13-16 girls' fee is $50.

New this year is a maximum family fee of $100. After Jan. 31 there will be a $10 late charge per player.

Sign-up must be completed by Jan. 31 to guarantee the child has a place to play on a team. Tryouts will be held in February.

Umpires and volunteer coaches may sign up at the same email address listed above.

Anyone wishing to try out for a travel team in the following age groups should contact the respective coach as soon as possible: 8U Softball, Bill Romine, 479-640-4588; 12U Softball, Jerel Ellis, 479-531-3416; 9-yr.-old Baseball, Tony Kildow, 479-787-0250; and 13-yr.-old Baseball, Mark Hendricks, 479-530-7852.
