Decatur Streets cleared during recent snows

DECATUR -- The recent snow storms during the first week of January had area road crews and street departments working overtime to keep community streets clear of snow and ice.

The Jan. 4 snow storm saw State Highway 59 from Siloam Springs northward into Missouri very slick and treacherous, especially between Gentry and Decatur. This forced motorists to slow down and take their time getting to their destinations.

Once motorists topped the hill on Highway 59 at the southern end of Decatur city limits, the roads were clear, thanks to the tireless efforts of the Decatur Street Department. Street department workers Rocky Mills, Troy Wakes, Rickey Burke, Adam Cramer and David Flynt worked throughout the night clearing the major streets and intersections.

"The street department received several compliments from area residents on their efforts to keep streets and intersections clear during and after the recent storms," Mayor Charles Linam stated.

More snow storms are predicted for February and March. When they hit, area residents can breathe easier knowing that not only the Decatur street department, but road crews from Gentry, Gravette, Benton County and Arkansas Department of Transportation will be behind the plows and salt trucks clearing a way through snow and ice for those who have to travel.
