GENTRY -- Choir members from the middle school and high school not only performed a Christmas musical. They collected cans of food for a local food pantry and raised money for the family of a man injured in a car accident.

Gentry Middle and High School choirs, under the direction of Trella Yates, presented a Christmas musical play, entitled "Jinglebell Jukebox," on the afternoon of Jan. 12. The performance was delayed because of snow storms in December and January.

The musical featured Kristen Flesner, a senior, as Ruby, a 1950s waitress in a diner and soda shop, and Colton Little, freshman, as a janitor at the business. Along with them, 50 students had speaking parts in the play and all 135 choir members sang holiday favorites.

The performance also served as a fundraiser for two community efforts. Those attending the performance brought canned food as a part of their admission to help replenish the Gentry Food Pantry at Gentry's First Christian Church. The choir collected 356 cans of food for the pantry.

A donation jar was also available for attendees and $456 was collected to assist the Roy Brinkley Family with expenses incurred as a result of a car accident in which Roy was injured. Brinkley is the father of a choir member.

Yates and her choir members expressed their thanks to community members for their support of these two special projects.
