Decatur boys starting to heat up

DECATUR -- Mario Urquidi and the Decatur Bulldogs are on a roll.

After opening 2A-4 Conference play with a pair of losses, Decatur has posted two straight impressive victories over Hartford and Mountainburg heading into Friday's showdown at Eureka Springs.

"Two good wins in a row," said Decatur boys basketball coach John Unger. "I have been here three years and I had not had one game where I could relax in the fourth quarter. Now, I've had two in a row where we pretty much put the opponent out by the fourth quarter. We are playing a lot better."

Decatur (4-7, 2-2) defeated Hartford 66-51 on Saturday and Mountainburg 58-41 on Tuesday as Urquidi combined for 51 points and 33 rebounds. The 6-foot-4 junior had 27 points and 20 rebounds against Mountainburg after scoring 24 points with 13 rebounds against Hartford.

"Mario is dominating games," Unger said. "He can catch it in the post and make post moves. He can catch it on the perimeter and make perimeter moves. He has turned into a really special player the last two weeks."
