Town hall meeting set for Friday in Gravette

GRAVETTE -- Gravette area residents will have the chance Friday to voice opinions on the county's plan to pay for rural ambulance service.

Steve Curry, justice of the peace for District 11, which includes the Gravette area, will host the next town hall session the Benton County's Quorum Court organized to inform voters on the plan before the Feb. 11 vote. The meeting is set for 6 p.m. at the Billy V. Hall Senior Center in Gravette.

Officials plan on forming an emergency medical services district with an annual $85 fee on households to make ambulance service available to the area. The district would include all of the unincorporated areas in the county except those served by the Northeast Benton County Fire Department's ambulance service.

Officials have worked for several years on a way to reimburse the cities -- Bentonville, Bella Vista, Gravette, Pea Ridge, Rogers, Siloam Springs and Springdale -- that provide ambulance service in the county. The cities' requests for reimbursement for 2014 is $942,000.

The Quorum Court decided in September to form the district to pay the cities. A petition drive gathered enough signatures to force a referendum.

Other upcoming meetings include:

1 p.m., Saturday, in the city council room at Lowell City Hall.

6 p.m., Tuesday, in the community room at the Pea Ridge Fire Department.

6:30 p.m., Jan. 30, at the Centerton Fire Department.

7 p.m., Feb. 3, at the Prairie Creek Community Building, 14432 E. Arkansas 12 in Rogers.
