City council adopts fire code, approves lot splits

GRAVETTE -- The regular monthly meeting of the Gravette City Council was held Thursday, June 26, at the Civic Center. All members were present except councilwoman Amy Rambadt.

In new business, an ordinance was passed providing for the adoption of the 2012 Arkansas Fire Prevention Code. Three copies of this code will be on file at city hall.

A budget adjustment was approved for $46,120 to replace storm drain culverts on Main Street between 8th Street and 10th Street, as recommended by street department superintendent Tim Dewitt. 75 percent of the cost will be reimbursed by FEMA. Work on the project will begin soon and take two to three weeks to complete.

Five ordinances were passed approving lot splits, including a lot split for John Richard Meade on Spanish Treasure Road, a lot split for Dorothy Willoughby on Hwy. 279 going into Bella Vista, one for Royce and Islamae Arnold on Hwy. 72 at Stagecoach Road, one for property owned by Iris Rotramel on North Mount Pleasant Road and one for property owned by John and Janice Lykins on Jackson Street. A lot split for Kim Hendren was not acted upon because the maps were not complete.

Following the meeting, city attorney David Bailey said he enjoyed attending the municipal league meeting in Little Rock the previous week and found the sessions very informative.

Mayor Byron Warren said he was pleased with the turnout for the town hall meeting on June 17. Representatives from the city, school, chamber of commerce and planning commission all attended. There was good input from the citizens and a Main Street facelift was identified as the number one priority. Other projects citizens requested included water and sewer service extension east of town, a playground at the ballfields, sidewalks and infrastructure.
