WESTSIDE -- Sarah Mills of Benton County, Meredith Williams of White County and Joshua Lockhart, also of Benton County, have been named finalists for the 2014 Arkansas 4-H Governor's Award.

A special luncheon honoring the finalists was recently held at the Governor's Mansion in Little Rock. Following the luncheon Governor Mike Beebe and First Lady Ginger Beebe led Mills, Williams, Lockhart and state 4-H dignitaries on a guided tour of the Governor's Mansion and grounds.

Mills, the daughter of Brent and Tina Mills of Gentry, will be a sophomore at Stephens College in Columbia, Mo., this fall and is a fashion design/marketing major. Her main 4-H project was fabrics and fashion. Williams, the daughter of Bill and Ruth Williams of Searcy, will be a sophomore this fall at the University of Central Arkansas and is pursuing a major in health science/pharmacy. Her main 4-H project was food and nutrition. Lockhart, the son of Ross and Brenda Lockhart of Gravette, has been accepted into the Honors College at the University of Arkansas and will be pursuing a degree in poultry genetics beginning this fall. Lockhart's main 4-H project was leadership.

The 4-H Governor's Award is the highest level of recognition a 4-H member can receive on a state level. This prestigious award is based upon stringent evaluation of accomplishments throughout the finalists' 4-H career which is discussed during a personal interview by a distinguished panel of judges.

The interviews took place prior to the luncheon and tour of the Governor's Mansion.

The Arkansas 4-H Governor's Award recipient is presented a silver tray or crystal vase by the governor and a $1,000 scholarship. The winner will be announced at the annual Awards of Excellence Banquet which will be held later this month.

In addition, the Governor's Award recipient name will be added to a plaque on permanent display at the C.A. Vines Arkansas 4-H Center in Little Rock.
