Former Gentry woman found stabbed to death in Fort Smith

GENTRY -- A pregnant woman killed in Fort Smith Saturday had Gentry ties, according to local police.

Briana Butler, 22, was found dead after Fort Smith Police received a 911 call from Douglas True, 21, shortly before noon on Sunday. When police arrived at the home of True on South 66th Street, they found Butler's body on the floor in the bathroom.

Police also found a two-year-old girl, believed to be Briana's daughter, with minor injuries, sleeping in a nearby bedroom. She was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police believe a knife, located in the home was used during the incident.

According to a court affidavit, True admitted arguing with Butler on Saturday night but says he doesn't remember what happened after the argument became physical. True claims he passed out and later found Butler's body in the bathroom.

Butler's body was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy.

True was arrested on suspicion of two counts of capital murder and was being held at the Sebastian County Detention Center.

Butler was a 2010 graduate of Gentry High School and has family in the Gentry area, according to her Facebook page.
