Gentry Bible School

First Assembly of God in Gentry will be holding "Extreme Kids" Vacation Bible School Monday, July 28, through Friday, Aug. 1. It will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each night, with sign-in beginning at 6 p.m. The church is located at 821 East Main Street, just east of the Dollar General store.

Assembly of God VBS

Gravette First Assembly of God Church will hold Bible School from 6 to 8 p.m. July 28 to Aug. 1 for ages 4-12. Participants will be "going to an island" to learn about Jesus with fun, games, crafts and snacks. Rides are available by calling 479-787-5818 or 479-787-7047. Genealogical Society

The Northwest Arkansas Genealogy Society will meet at 6 p.m., Monday, July 28, in the Bentonville Library, 405 South Main, Bentonville. Bruce Hawkins will present a program about Family Search indexing which has more than one billion records that are freely searchable online. Mt. Pleasant Kid's Day

Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, located five miles east of Gravette on Highway 72, will hold Kid's Day on Saturday, Aug. 2, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Children ages 3 through high school age are invited to attend. There will be classes for all ages with Bible lessons, crafts, games and food. Pizza will be served for lunch. All children are invited to come and join in the fun. For more information or transportation call 633-1555. Jason Cook will present object lessons that teach Bible truths at 1 p.m. This is a program especially suited for children. The public is invited to come and join us for this inspirational presentation.

Chuck Wagon Dinner

Gentry Masonic Lodge, in conjunction with the Gentry Eastern Star, will be hosting a chuck wagon dinner on Aug. 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. Grilled burgers, baked beans, salad, dessert and drinks will be served for $8 per person. The public is cordially invited. The Gentry Masonic Lodge is located at 1469 Gentry Boulevard.

Music Festival

The Siloam Music Festival will be presenting its end-of-summer concert at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17, at JBU's Berry Performing Arts Center, 2000 W. University Street. The Theme will be "Keyboard & More," featuring an all-star cast of local pianists and vocalists, including Paul Whitley, Jonathan Story, Michael Shuman, Kim Hayes and Donna Rollene. Gravette Days

The 2014 Gravette Days, a two-day weekend celebration, will be Friday and Saturday, Aug. 8 and 9, in Kindley Park in Gravette and at other locations throughout the city. Gravette was founded in l893 and this is the city's 121st annual celebration. Festivities are planned for all ages, including softball and sand volleyball tournaments, an archery shoot and a skateboard exhibition and contest on Friday. Saturday begins early with a 5K run, Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast and youth football scrimmage. The rest of the fun-packed Saturday will include the judging and crowning of Miss Gravette 2014, pretty baby and tiny tot pageants, a juried car show, a parade, and an outdoor Dutch oven cook-off. Live music and food are planned. The celebration will conclude with a street dance Saturday night at 8 p.m. Gravette Days helps raise funds for the Gravette schools and other locally sponsored non-profit organizations. Dutch-oven Cook Off

The deadline for entering this year's Dutch oven cook-off, held Saturday during Gravette Days, is Aug. 1. Cook-off categories are main dish, bread, and dessert. Experienced entrants must prepare dishes in all three categories. New to this year's competition is the novice category in which competitors as young as 10 years old may enter and prepare only one dish. Gravette GDE Enrollment

Glenn Duffy Elementary School office will open on Aug. 4 for new student enrollment. Meanwhile, Pre-K through second grade enrollment packets are on the school website. Parents are encouraged to print the packet, complete it, then mail it to school as soon as possible. Supply lists are also on the GDE site: gde.gravetteschools.net.

Gentry Summer Meals

Gentry School District is participating in the Seamless Summer program and providing free breakfasts and lunches to children 18 and under and low-cost meals for adults. The school district is offering the meals at the Gentry Middle School/High School cafeteria. Breakfasts are served between 7:30 and 9 a.m., lunches from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday through Friday, through Aug. 1. Adults can eat for $3.25 per meal.

Sulphur Springs Library

The Sulphur Springs Public Library, located at 512 Black Street, reopened Monday, July 7, after being closed for several months. The library will now be open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 1 to 4 p.m. with volunteer help. Library membership cards for an individual may be purchased for $2 and a family card is $5. Gentry Summer Reading

The summer reading program at Gentry Public Library continues on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 10 to 11 a.m., through the end of July. For those 6 or under, summer reading sessions are held on Tuesdays. For those 7 and above, the sessions are on Thursdays. Children and parents are invited to stop by the library and pick up a calendar of events.

Gravette Library Gala

The second annual Gravette Public Library fundraising gala will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at the Cedaridge Event Center, 10889 Highway 72 W., in Bentonville. The event will feature a catered dinner, casino games, silent auction and a DJ. Dress is business/casual. Tickets are available for $25 per person or $160 for a table of eight and may be purchased at the Gravette library, Arvest Bank - Gravette and the Bank of Gravett or from any library commission member. Class Reunion

The Gravette High School Classes of 1944 and 1946 will host an open house from 9 to 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Bank of Gravett Community Room in Gravette (east of the main bank building). Gentry 25-year Reunion

The Gentry Class of 1989 will hold its 25-year reunion from 6 to 10 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 2, in the Gentry Intermediate School. Gentry All School Alumni

The Gentry All School Alumni banquet will be held Aug. 30 in the Gentry Middle/High School cafeteria. The banquet is for anyone who has attended Gentry Schools. Doors open at 6 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Cost per meal is $25. Funds are used to provide scholarships for graduating seniors. Gravette Farmers' Market

The Gravette Farmers' Market is open for its seventh season, just off Arkansas Highway 72, in Old Town Park. It will be open every Saturday from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. until November. The market will feature locally grown produce, plants, creative and artistic craft items and wholesome baked goods. USDA WIC vouchers, Senior Nutrition Program vouchers, Double-the-Money senior coupons and tokens will be accepted. Gentry Farmers' Market

The 2014 Gentry Farmers' Market is open at the Main Street Pavilion, 500 East Main Street, with Melissa Graef as the director. Those with produce may set up under the pavilion in the 11 by 14 foot space. The pavilion, which provides shelter from the rain and sun, is at the corner of Arkansas Highway 59 and Main Street. Hiwasse Farmers' Market

A farmers' market is open in Hiwasse throughout the summer months. The market is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Saturday at the vacant lot, near Not Too Shabby, in Hiwasse. Items featured will be local produce and craft items. NWA Riding Club

NWA Riding Club playdays are being held at the Luca Don Equestrian Center, located 4 miles west of Gentry on Arkansas Highway 12. Sign-up time is 5:30 p.m., with activities beginning promptly at 6. Playday rodeo competitions will be held every other Saturday. Events include pole bending, flags, barrels and speed race. Updated information is available at nwaridingclub.org.

Men's Fellowship

First Baptist Church of Gentry has a monthly men's fellowship gathering at 8 a.m. on the third Saturday of each month. All men are welcome to come for food and fellowship. Guests are welcome. For more information, contact Madden Waits at 736-5009.

Church Singing

Gravette Lions Club meets at 1 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of every month at the Billy V. Hall Wellness and Activity Center on Limekiln Road in Gravette. New members are welcome.

The Gravette Museum Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. the first Monday of each month in the museum annex building, 503 Charlotte St., S.E., just east of the Gravette Public Library.

Gravette Legion

Gravette American Legion Post 25 meets at 7 p.m. the third Tuesday of each month at the Civic Center. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Gravette Kiwanis

The Gravette Kiwanis Club holds breakfast meetings at 7 a.m. each Friday at the cafeteria in Ozarks Community Hospital. Guests are welcome.

Singing Services

Monthly singing services at Falling Springs Church are held at 7 p.m., the first Friday of each month. The church is located northwest of Gentry and west of Decatur on Falling Springs Road.

Decatur VFW Meetings

VFW Post 9834 meets at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of each month. New members and guests are welcome. The facility is three miles east of Decatur on Arkansas Highway 102 and right on Tilly's Hill Road.
