Giant culverts are waiting in Old Town Park in Gravette to be put in place on Main Street just above the north end of the park. They will replace older culverts that are badly eroded and in danger of collapse. Total cost of the project is $106,120 but FEMA will reimburse the city 75 percent of that when the project is completed.

A backhoe worked on Gravette Main Street just east of 8th Avenue near Old Town Park July 22. The operator was breaking out the old sidewalk in preparation for installing new culverts and sidewalk. The project is expected to be completed in about two weeks, before school starts.

This view from Old Town Park shows some of the crumpled culvert that will be removed and replaced with new drainage pipes. The backhoe operator was preparing to remove a section of the sidewalk northeast of the farmers' market pavilion in order to expose the current culvert.
