Tharp announces run for mayoral post in Decatur

DECATUR -- Bob Tharp, a current member of the Decatur City Council, announced Tuesday his candidacy for mayor of Decatur.

"My family and I have lived in Decatur for the past 29 years and I wanted to continue by providing leadership to the community and strong vision for the town of Decatur, bringing new life to this city," Tharp said.

This is not the first time Tharp has run for city office in Decatur. He is currently serving a two-year term as a Decatur city councilman.

Tharp has held other public offices in the area, including four years as justice of the peace on the Benton County Quorum Court and six years on the Decatur School Board. He also served as city councilman and mayor of Strafford, Mo., before moving to Decatur in 1986.

Tharp has worked in industrial leadership for more than 40 years. He and his wife Joy have three sons and five grandchildren.
