GRAVETTE -- Glenn Duffy Elementary held a peanut butter and jelly drive in April of this year in observance of National PB&J Day on April 2. Students gathered both peanut butter and jelly to help stock the local food pantry.

As a result, Share the Harvest Food Pantry, represented by Terry King, presented Mrs. Norberg's kindergarten class with a certificate of appreciation for gathering the most jars in the school.

Moving forward, Share the Harvest and Glenn Duffy plan to work together to make the food drive an annual event.

"It was a great opportunity," said Zane Vanderpool, principal at Glenn Duffy. "We will participate every year," he continued.

The pantry is run through charitable donations and food drives like this one.

"It brings awareness to the kids of our community," said Share the Harvest volunteer Terry King. "Our children need to know that there are other kids in our community that are hungry and that giving just a little of what we have, can make a big difference," she continued.

Share the Harvest food pantry serves locally as an emergency food pantry to those in need. The pantry feeds approximately 150 families a month, with about 38 percent of those served being under the age of 17.
