COLCORD (OKLA.) -- Residents of Colcord, Okla., celebrated the town's 85th anniversary at the annual Old Settlers Day festival and rodeo last weekend.

The Colcord Old Settlers Day Rodeo was held on Friday and Saturday evenings and festival events were held throughout the day on Saturday.

The Colcord post office offered commemorative 'Old Settlers Day, Colcord, OK 1929-2014" pre-stamped, postmarked envelopes to celebrate the town's 85th anniversary, according to postmaster Dedra Puckett. The pictorial postmark was available on a variety of specially designed envelopes. They were only available for sale on Saturday.

The Talbot Library and Museum held their annual book and bake sale. They also offered hamburger dinners hot off the grill.

A book signing in the historic Springtown Schoolhouse was a featured event at the museum this year, according to curator Donna Clark. Western novelists Dusty Richards, Velda Brotherton, Greg Camp and Pamela Foster sold and signed copies of their latest books.

A parade wound its way through town on Saturday morning, followed by entertainment in the park, including a horseshoe tournament, children's games, a turtle and frog race, bounce houses, live music and a hog fry.

The rodeo, held at the Colcord Riding Club Arena, included junior barrel racing, bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, barrel racing, calf roping, steer wrestling, bull riding, team roping and breakaway roping.

No queen contest was held this year, Clark said.

The annual Colcord Picnic has been held since 1929, celebrating the community and the pioneers who settled the area, Clark said. Prior to 1928, the community was known as Row. A post office was established there in 1903. The town was later named after Charles F. Colcord, a prominent Oklahoman and benefactor to the community.
