Maddox forms campaign committee for mayor post

GRAVETTE -- Kurt Maddox, former Gravette city councilman, announced June 17 the formation of a campaign committee for the office of mayor in the city of Gravette.

"I look forward to the possibility of working with the citizens of Gravette at a time when planning, budgeting and stewardship will be crucial to set the path of our city's future growth," Maddox said. "This is even more important with the addition of the community of Hiwasse and the expansion of I49 through Gravette. The margin for error in city business will decrease and the challenge of keeping our small town feel will increase."

"Having lived in Gravette for many years and attending high school in Gravette, I care deeply about the direction our city takes and I would like the opportunity to rise to that challenge," Maddox continued. "It is an honor for me to receive the encouragement I've had so far, from citizens in Gravette looking for a fresh direction and at the same time carefully balancing, keeping our small town feel while moving forward with inevitable growth that the I49 expansion will bring."

Raised in Northwest Arkansas, Maddox established and operates MDX Group, Inc., a family of local and Internet businesses. Maddox's education includes master's degrees in leadership and ethics and in business adminstration from John Brown University. He has been involved in music ministry and financial teaching and continues to be a part of local civic groups such as the Gravette Area Chamber, Kiwanis and Lions Club.

"Not unlike running a business, the mayoral position requires real-world experience balanced with vision and a desire to work with people. I have a long history working with budgets, creating business plans, meeting payrolls and responding to clients' needs. [It requires] having a heart for a city that's community, is well served by city employees, a solid infrastructure, providing service, beauty, availability and safety -- that will keep our city's charming appeal. I would like to offer that experience to the citizens of Gravette," says Maddox.

Maddox stopped short of making his candidacy official, pending the legal formation of the committee.
