County man acquitted

GRAVETTE -- Royce Webb, 57, was acquitted of charges in connection with shooting his cousin.

He had been charged in connection with battery in the first degree, a Class B felony punishable with a prison sentence ranging from five to 20 years. Webb was arrested Aug. 30, 2011.

Webb was accused of shooting Mitchell Webb with a shotgun.

Royce Webb was committed to the Arkansas State Hospital in June after he was found unfit to stand trial. Last Wednesday, he was acquitted of the charges due to having a mental disease or defect.

Mitchell Webb was treated for the wound and released from Northwest Medical Center-Bentonville, according to court documents. Mitchell Webb was working on a bulldozer on a dirt road when he was shot.

Royce Webb barricaded himself in his home at 14425 W. Arkansas 102 after the shooting and later surrendered to Benton County Sheriff's deputies, according to court documents.

Royce Webb also was arrested in April in connection with threatening another person. The acquittal also covers those charges.

Webb will now be in a program monitored and supervised by the Arkansas Department of Human Services, according to Stuart Cearley, chief deputy prosecutor.
