DECATUR -- Track and field season is in full swing for the Decatur Bulldog junior and senior high teams as they traveled to Pea Ridge and Bentonville to compete against teams from class 2A through 7A. Their first meet of the 2014 season was March 11.
The Bulldogs junior high team competed in the Pea Ridge meet March 11. The men's team placed second overall, while the women placed fifth. There were 15 teams participating in the meet. Shane Holland, Decatur's track coach, said he was satisfied with the results of their first outing.
The senior team competed in the Pea Ridge meet March 14. While several Decatur athletes did well individually, the team as a whole failed to place in the top 10.
The lack of a track at Decatur severely limits the teams' ability to practice as most other schools do. However, Holland and the assistants have found innovative ways to circumvent this handicap. During one practice session, while the weather was less than favorable to use Bulldog Stadium, Holland converted Peterson Gym into a hurdle course, putting thick pads down to protect the floor.

Senior High Meet at Pea Ridge -- Men's: High Jump - Mario Urquidi 2nd; 1600m - Tyler Riddle 1st; 400m - Mario Urquidi 7th; 800m - Tyler Riddle 5th.
Senior High Meet at Pea Ridge -- Woman's: Long Jump - Sarah Harris 4th; High Jump - Sarah Harris 4th; Triple Jump - Sarah Harris 4th; 100m - Sarah Harris 6th; Shot Put - Hannah Ramsey 3rd; Discus - Hannah Ramsey 2nd; 100m Hurdles - Lacy Barrett 2nd; 100m - Lacy Barrett 7th; 300m Hurdles - Lacy Barrett 4th.
The next track and field event for the Bulldogs was the Ninth Annual Bentonville Tiger Relays held at Bentonville High School March 20. This was the second meet for the senior high team.
Holland took eight members of the senior track team to the event. They included Mario Urquidi, Victor Urquidi, Kyle Shaffer, Terry Kell, Tyler Riddle, Sarah Harris, Lacy Barrett and Hannah Ramsey.
The Decatur team competed with others from 2A through 7A area schools such as Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers, Bentonville, Gravette, Gentry and Siloam Springs. Twenty area high schools participated.

Bentonville Results -- Girls: Long Jump - Sarah Harris 24th; Triple Jump - Sarah Harris 18th; Shot Put - Hannah Ramsey 22nd; Discus - Hannah Ramsey 19th; 100m Hurdles - Lacy Barrett 20th; 100m Dash - Sarah Harris 32nd; 300m Hurdles - Lacy Barrett 17th.
