Waiver granted, Gentry taking spring break

WESTSIDE -- Waivers were granted Thursday by the Arkansas Board of Education to west-side schools -- six days to Decatur, five days to Gravette and seven days to Gentry.

As a result, Gentry Schools will take three days of its scheduled spring break. There will be no school in Gentry on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week, according to Randy Barrett, superintendent of Gentry Public Schools. Classes will be held on Good Friday and Memorial Day. The last day of student classes will be May 30 -- unless it snows again.

The change in Gentry, adding days back into spring break if the waiver was granted, was offered to the teaching staff by the school board on March 17. Teachers voted early last week, 128 to 58, to take three days of spring break rather than finishing student class days two days earlier.

The teachers' last day in Gentry remains June 10, according to Barrett, but one or more of those days may be completed with online training or other off-site duties.
